I can't help by feel the insatiable need to sew, or bead, lately; something for someone...
My twin sister Raven, aka Sistaan or Sister, was about 8 years old when I took this candid shot of her and my niece (her sister) Tiny, aka Konuk.
The shirt she is wearing is the first shirt I ever made.  The beaded floral patterns were passed to me from my aunt Janelle, the Xixch' (frog) design is the same design used by my family and clan a hundred years ago.  The l'ook (silver salmon) on her headband represent our clan and was made to match the dance shirt.
Raven wore this for a few years, until she grew out of it and then it was passed to Tiny who is just now growing out of it.  It's one of the pieces I am most proud of.

  1. I didn't know you have a twin sister, cool. & her name is Raven? I love ravens, such beautiful birds. That is an amazing shirt for an 8 year old to make, no wonder your so proud of it. Adorable picture, they are so cute.

  2. I actually made this when I was probably 17(ish).
My twin sister is technically my niece, but our namesakes (Sistaan and Lánuwudakhat) were twin sisters so we are also twins...and act like it too :)
